Wing Takeout During COVID-19 Pandemic: Duff's in Orchard Park

Deliciousness TO GO! It's been wayyy too long since the dynamic wing duo had some fresh Buffalo wings. We decided to take advantage of safe social distance practices to get some takeout from Duff's in Orchard Park. We wanted to share our experience with you, and give some wing takeout tips.

Note: As takeout is a completely different experience than dine-in, we will NOT be applying our traditional wing rating system to takeout experiences. Think of it more as an FYI to inform your dining choices for pandemic wingery.

Let's dig in!

Look at those delectable takeout wings!

Overall: The wings were TASTY! A welcome hit of flavor during a time when we've been doing a LOT of home cooking. We thought the sauce was an entire level hotter than the normal Duff's medium, which is "hot" by their standards. These were more like a VERY hot. ðŸ”¥ðŸ”¥ðŸ”¥

The wings also suffered from "takeout box steam" - that is, the heat of the wings inside the closed takeout container caused them to get a little gummy. Sadly, this meant the wings were not a typical crispiness. This can be excused because it's takeout and the experience can wildly differ from dine-in.

General Pandemic Takeout Tips & Staying Safe

  • Order ahead by 20-30 minutes, especially if it's the weekend and dinner time. Some restaurants need extra time to fill the larger number of takeout orders they have been receiving.
  • Order online if possible, via phone call is the next best option. This cuts down the time you physically spend in the restaurant, if necessary.
  • Curbside/trunk pickup! Many restaurants are offering to bring your order right out to your car. This is a great option to keep everyone safe. Generally, you can call the restaurant from your vehicle once you arrive and someone will bring your order out to you. Providing your license plate number or a brief description of your car is helpful.
  • Wear a mask if you do have to go into the restaurant for pickup. We keep spare masks right in our cars so we don't ever forget them.
  • Crack the lid! Once the food is safely inside your car, open the takeout lid. This is essential for hot food, ESPECIALLY for Buffalo wings. This prevents the dreaded "takeout steam" that causes hot and crispy foods to become soggy.
