WingNutz

These wings are from a different dimension

Final Overall Score: 4.3

Restaurant: 2.0

  • The WingNutz restaurant had us thinking this wing trip was going to be yet another disappointment. My goodness, were we wrong. First of all, WingNutz is difficult to find because it’s located in the Knights of Columbs building, and there are almost no indications of where it’s located. Second, there is an overpowering musty smell in this building that nearly made us turn back right then and there. Next, there are only 3 menu items at WingNutz: 1) wings, 2) beef on weck, and 3) french fries. We were the first customers in the door at noon and were promptly informed upon entering that they were already sold out of beef on weck. Apparently someone had called ahead of us at 11:59am and ordered the entire stock of beef on weck that they had. Literally all of it. So if you want to try their beef on weck, somehow get there sooner than 30 seconds of their opening time, or call ahead. The final bad omen was that it took over 40 minutes to prepare the wings. It was so long. We were very cranky and hangry by the time the wings arrived.

Taste: 5.0

  • Okay. So. We would like to take a moment here to point out that despite the previous litany of not-so-great restaurant experience, the sheer amazingness of these wings pretty much nullified ALL of that because there are no words for how delicious these wings are. WINGNUTZ WINGS ARE FRIGGIN DELICIOUS.

Sauce: 5.0

  • The sauce!! Amazing. Sheer amazingness. Outstanding Buffalo sauce. It hit every aspect: creamy, flavorful, thick, spicy, acidic. Each wing was shimmering from how perfectly coated they were with sauce. One small issue however: The wings are coated unlike traditional Buffalo wings, however, the sauce was so good we were willing to forgive this minor imperfection.

Crispiness: 5.0

  • There are no words for such a perfect crispiness and delicious chicken meat. The crispy skin was like fluffy, crunchy pillows from heaven in your mouth, and the meat was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Side note: we heard that WingNutz does a light dusting of flour on their wings - this is unconventional for Buffalo wings but the wings were so good, we did not subtract points for this.

Size & Quality: 4.5

  • GIANT wings, almost too giant. We were completely full after three wings each, and some of the wings were so giant that they almost looked mutated. The owner joked, “We feed the ranch dressing to the chickens.” Maybe he wasn’t joking… Regardless, we did have to subtract a bit here for how irregular some of the gargantuan wings were.
